IDENTIFYING AND WORKING WITH PARENTS WITH DIFFERING COGNITIVE ABILITIES
The Connecticut Parents with Differing Cognitive Abilities Workgroup has developed a training to assist providers in identifying and working more effectively with parents with cognitive limitations and their children. The objectives of this training are to:

Gain a greater understanding of "executive functioning" and the implications of limitations in functioning;

awareness of the needs of parents with cognitive limitations;

Improve the identification and assessment of parents with cognitive limitations and their families; and

Participants will learn through lecture, audio-visual materials, and small group discussion. The training is delivered by an interdisciplinary team. Trainees represent child welfare, and providers of services related to family support; substance abuse and behavioral health, child care, workforce development; etc. CEUs for social workers are available.
